TPC Sawgrass – Play It As It Lies????

Posted on May 9th, 2013

Since this week is TPC Players Championship week I thought it would be fun to revisit a funny moment from the 17th green at the 1998 TPC Players Championship. The video below is less than 30 seconds long so give it a quick look. For those wondering, yes Steve Lowery was able to replace his ball with no penalty. When I was at Chambers Bay two weeks ago I actually saw a hawk pick up a ball and move it from the bunker to the grass. Maybe we will see some more of this type of stuff at the

National Skin Cancer Awareness Month

Posted on May 8th, 2013

May is National Skin Cancer Awareness Month and with as much time as we golfers spend in the sun we should learn how to be careful. The Center for Disease Control recommends using sunscreen with at least 15 SPF. I personally always buy the highest I can find on the shelf. For the last couple of years I’ve been a big fan of the Coppertone Sport product line. They made a sunscreen in a stick that looks like a large chapstick and is very easy to apply to the face and ear areas. Being in a stick makes it

Redemption Day!!!

Posted on April 14th, 2013

Big congratulations to 2013 Masters Champion, Adam Scott of AUSTRALIA!! I have always liked this guy and after his meltdown at last years British Open I was really rooting for him at The Masters this year. Finally, at long last Australia has a green jacket! Way to go Adam, that was gutsy play in a clutch situation. I love it when a long putt wins a tournament, especially a major. What a huge thrill to watch . . . great job Adam!!! Wow, what a week of golf. The Masters started for me with a trip to Augusta National

Top 100 Golf Odyssey E-Newsletter Vol. 19

It looks like spring has finally arrived here in Virginia and I don’t know how it could have taken any longer. There was snow on the ground as recently as 2 weeks ago and after a few consecutive days of increasing temperatures I think Old Man Winter has officially been put to bed. This time of year means one thing for golf fans . . . The Masters!!!! Can’t wait for the coverage to start and to see how the course looks this year. Hopefully Augusta did not have the same kind of winter that we did here in

The Art of Golf

Posted on March 20th, 2013

I thought that this might be of interest for my readers who are located in Philadelphia or are planning to visit Philly this summer for the U.S. Open at Merion Golf Club. From March 16 through July 7, 2013 the Philadelphia Museum of Art is featuring an exhibit that is dedicated to the great game of golf and will include the infamous Charles Lees painting entitled “The Golfers”. This painting has been replicated hundreds of thousands of times, but the original is truly a masterpiece on its 7 foot wide canvas. This is probably the most famous golf painting

It’s In The Hole!!!

Posted on March 11th, 2013

As the season gets geared up I find myself thinking back to the start of last year’s season. One of my first big trips of the year was a visit to Prairie Dunes with a bunch of guys for several days where we played the course multiple times. During the first round of the trip one of the guys made an ace on what is one of my favorite par 3s, the 161 yard 2nd hole. I wasn’t in his group that round, but it was awesome to share the excitement in the clubhouse afterwards. A few weeks later

What’s On The Horizon For TheItinerantGolfer.com

Posted on March 4th, 2013

Hello Everyone!! I’m going to be out of town on a non-golf (THE HORROR!!!) trip this week, so this will be my only post until next Monday March 11. The weekend of March 15th I’ll be hitting the road again for a bona fide golf trip so you can expect to see some more course profiles posted here by mid to late March. I hope everyone has enjoyed and been able to make use of the Travel Planner posts that I have been putting up in the off season. I’ve had a lot of fun putting them together. So

Oh, It Looks Good On You Though

Posted on February 27th, 2013

I usually buy a hat whenever I visit a club. I figure its something I’ll get some use out of and when it gets ruined – which it eventually will – I won’t feel as bad about it as I would when a $90 shirt gets ruined. The end result is that I have a collection consisting of a solid 50-60 baseball caps. Most of them are practically brand new because I really only wear about 3 of them. It’s a bit of a joke whenever someone comes in my office and sees the pile of hats on the

Logo Bingo

Posted on February 11th, 2013

One of the things that I always enjoy about watching the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am coverage is seeing what Top 100 club logos will pop up on the amateur participants. This year the stand outs were Bill Murray in Prairie Dunes (Fri.) and Sage Valley (Sat.), Tony Romo in Dallas National gear and Charles Schwab with his usual Cypress Point visor. It’s always fun to see what clubs are being represented out there which is something a few of my friends refer to as “logo bingo”. Since I was thinking about logos this weekend, here are a few of
