What’s On The Horizon For TheItinerantGolfer.com

Posted on March 4th, 2013

Hello Everyone!! I’m going to be out of town on a non-golf (THE HORROR!!!) trip this week, so this will be my only post until next Monday March 11. The weekend of March 15th I’ll be hitting the road again for a bona fide golf trip so you can expect to see some more course profiles posted here by mid to late March. I hope everyone has enjoyed and been able to make use of the Travel Planner posts that I have been putting up in the off season. I’ve had a lot of fun putting them together. So

Oh, It Looks Good On You Though

Posted on February 27th, 2013

I usually buy a hat whenever I visit a club. I figure its something I’ll get some use out of and when it gets ruined – which it eventually will – I won’t feel as bad about it as I would when a $90 shirt gets ruined. The end result is that I have a collection consisting of a solid 50-60 baseball caps. Most of them are practically brand new because I really only wear about 3 of them. It’s a bit of a joke whenever someone comes in my office and sees the pile of hats on the

Logo Bingo

Posted on February 11th, 2013

One of the things that I always enjoy about watching the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am coverage is seeing what Top 100 club logos will pop up on the amateur participants. This year the stand outs were Bill Murray in Prairie Dunes (Fri.) and Sage Valley (Sat.), Tony Romo in Dallas National gear and Charles Schwab with his usual Cypress Point visor. It’s always fun to see what clubs are being represented out there which is something a few of my friends refer to as “logo bingo”. Since I was thinking about logos this weekend, here are a few of

AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am

I rarely cover the PGA Tour on this website, but occasionally I feel like there is a story that’s relevant and this week’s Tour stop is one of them. It’s not very often that the PGA Tour plays at a Top 100 course but even more rare is it that they tee it up at THREE of them in one week! The format for this week’s tournament has the PGA Tour pros teamed up with amateur partners and because the field is so large the tournament is spread over three courses . . . Monterey Peninsula Country Club’s Shore

Golf Houses

Posted on January 24th, 2013

With temperatures in the low 20s here in Virginia I find myself reminiscing back to the warm and sunny days of this past summer. As I was daydreaming yesterday I began thinking about a how much I enjoyed my visit to Crystal Downs in July. The course was fantastic and I played halfway decent, so it was fun reliving the round in my head. Interestingly, one of the memories that was particularly vivid as I went over the day in my mind was touring the clubhouse. I’ve been very fortunate to have been able to visit a lot of

Happy New Year!!! I hope everyone had a fun end to 2012 and your 2013 is off to a great start as well. The holidays flew by this year and I didn’t get to spend my usual couple of weeks tinkering with my website as I usually do. Rest assured, there is yet another redesign on the way which I hope will make the site more informative and enjoyable for everyone. 2012 ended up being a great year for golf. Despite the fact that I visited only 10 new Top 100 courses (the least since I started my quest)

Some Of My Favorite One Shot Holes

Posted on December 10th, 2012

Par 3s are often some of the most dramatic and memorable holes on a golf course. These fun and often challenging holes come in all different shapes and sizes . . . long, short, uphill, downhill and everything in between. There have been a lot of things written about the greatest par 3s and the lists usually look pretty similar. There is always mention of Augusta National’s 12th and 16th holes and of course Cypress Point’s 15th and 16th are on most lists as well. Show me a person who doesn’t love those holes and I’ll show you someone

Get Your Fix With Live Golf Cams

Posted on December 5th, 2012

As the winter nears it becomes more and more common to look out the window and see weather that is not very conducive to golf. Luckily, here in Virginia we’ve been enjoying a warm snap that has delivered temperatures all the way into the 70s even as we are preparing for the “winter” holidays. It’s been a bit unusual and I suspect that the bitter days of winter are not too far off in the future. Sometimes when I’m sitting at my desk day dreaming of golf I like to check out a few golf webcams from year round

Going Global

Posted on December 3rd, 2012

This week is a step in the right direction for The Itinerant Golfer . . . I’m finally playing golf outside the U.S. I’ll be visiting the Dominican Republic for a charity golf tournament and playing a couple of rounds at Cap Cana (Punta Espada) which currently sits atop the GolfWeek Best Courses of the Caribbean list. I don’t know much about the place but I’m looking forward to checking it out as I’ve heard some good things. No, its not quite Scotland, Ireland, or the sandbelt of Australia, but my passport will officially be stamped for golf and
