Does Tee it Forward Really Matter?

Posted on October 18th, 2012

This past weekend I played on Sunday with a friend of mine and his 14 year old son Jack. Jack took up golf about a year ago and as a birthday present I brought him out to my club for a game. As a 14 year old Jack doesn’t hit the ball all that long so we all decided to play from the 5,800 yard tees which are 2 sets of tees in front of my normal set. I have to admit, I was really looking forward to this. I was licking my chops and thinking “maybe this will

Miracle at Medinah or Meltdown at Medinah???

Posted on October 1st, 2012

I suppose that whether you want to call it a “Miracle” or a “Meltdown” depends on who you were rooting for. What can I say . . . that was quite a finish to the 2012 Ryder Cup at Medinah Country Club. Jose Maria Olazabal and the European team overcame the odds and managed to eek out a 14 1/2 to 13 1/2 win over Davis Love’s American squad. The American team came out of the gates strong and I was beginning to think we may have a blow out on our hands, but as I watched the final

Club Chumpionship

Posted on September 10th, 2012

So this weekend I decided to play in my club championship. Now, I’m not that good so I played in the flighted division which I like to refer to as the “chumpionship”. My experience with tournament golf is very limited. I once played on my club’s team in a city wide event and on the first hole pulled the bonehead move of knocking my ball out of the way when it came to rest 1 inch short of the hole. Clearly I forgot that all putts must be holed and I ended up three putting from where my ball

It Finally Happened

Posted on August 20th, 2012

After more than 5 years of running around the country playing golf I finally had a day of bad weather. This past Wednesday at Hudson National I had my first official rain out on the Top 100 quest. As we were holing out our putts on the 10th hole the lightning siren sounded and by time we made our way back to the halfway hut the skies had opened up and rain was dumping on the course. We waited it out for about an hour but finally decided to throw in the towel. What a shame to have such

And Then He Had Two

Posted on August 13th, 2012

When Rory McIlroy decides to win a major he really does it with style. After making his inaugural major victory by 8 strokes at the 2011 U.S. Open the 23 year old followed up with another 8 stroke victory at the 2012 P.G.A. Championship. There are only three golfers of the modern era with two major championship victories by the ripe young age of 23 and they are named Jack Nicklaus, Seve Ballesteros and Tiger Woods. I wonder what time the golf media will have the coronation ceremony for their new king?? Rory got off to a solid start

The Big Easy!!

Posted on July 23rd, 2012

Wow, what a great Open Championship this year with Ernie Els emerging triumphant for his second Claret Jug. Royal Lytham & St. Annes really delivered the drama in spades. To start with, I love the look of the 18th green with that Tudor style clubhouse in the background. What a great stage for championship golf.     The big news early in the week was that a particularly wet summer had the course looking unusually green and the rough playing tougher than nails. Phil Mickelson, who uncharacteristically missed the cut, really struggled with the brutal rough on Thursday and

Hello Friends and Fellow Golf Fanatics! Last month I celebrated the five year anniversary of this site and of my Top 100 quest. It’s been an amazing, incredible, and at times simply unbelievable journey so far. As I reflected on the last 60 months one thing that struck me was all the fantastic people I have met. When I stopped and really began to think about all the golfers I have played a game with over the last five years it was utterly mind boggling. The community that loves golf truly is a great society. The people I have
